C.A.R.E. Volunteer Opportunities
CLEANING HELPER:
Do you want to be a vital part of the C.A.R.E. team helping to care for all of our pups? Then this is the role for you! The kennel cleaning position involves ensuring the dogs have a clean and comfortable living space here while they are in our care. After cleaning we encourage you to help out with enrichment and to give all of our residents tons of love.
When: Due to the training involved in this position, we ask for a 2 month commitment for this opportunity. If there is a day of the week that works for both yourself and the shelter, you would come on that specific day every week, from 8:00-10:30 a.m. Ex. If we needed help in kennels on Mondays and it worked for your schedule, you would come every Monday from 8:00-10:30 for a minimum of 2 months. This volunteer position is available for helpers 16 years old or older.
EVENT HELPER:
We hold adopt-a-thons, fundraisers, and community assistance and outreach events all throughout the year and we always need help! You can also help transport animals, post fliers, and assist with sponsorship requests.
When: Upon completion of our online volunteer orientation, we will email you when we have upcoming events, and sign up as you have time.
DOG WALKING:
Walk dogs on or near the Colorado Animal Rescue property!
When: Dog walking shifts must be scheduled in advance, online. Shifts are offered from 9:30-10:30 am, and 10:30-11:30 am every day of the week, based on our dog population. You can choose 1-2 shifts per week.
CAT ENRICHMENT AND TLC:
Help give cats the enrichment they need during their time at the shelter. Help brush, provide prey play, puzzle treats, and more. Ensure that the cats in our care are receiving not only the social interaction they need, but also mental stimulation so they can thrive until they find their forever home!
When: Cat Enrichment and TLC shifts must be scheduled in advance, online. Shifts are offered from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm and 2:30 pm-3:30 pm every day of the week. You can choose 1-2 shifts per week.
PUPPY LUV
Come spend time with one of your favorite shelter pups, giving one dog an extended enrichment experience for the day, you can sit with them in their room while reading a book or play tug – o war with their favorite toy! The possibilities are endless, even our older residence love the extra attention. This role will be focusing on puppies that need to follow particular safety protocols while they get used to the shelter and receive the proper vaccines, but also applies to all of our other animals.
DISH WASHING/KONG MAKING
Help the C.A.R.E. team by washing morning dishes and make evening treat kongs for our pups here at the shelter! Make a huge impact on our shelter dogs enrichment.
DAY HIKE WITH A DOG:
Take a hike and experience the best of the Roaring Fork Valley with a four-legged friend! Please note that this position is separate from our Dog Walking position, and involves taking a dog off the Colorado Animal Rescue property (in your car) to hike a dog-friendly trail of your choosing.
When: If you are interested in this position, our Programs Director will email you additional details regarding scheduling upon completion of our online volunteer orientation.
FOSTER CARE:
Have you ever wanted to care for a pet, but weren’t able to permanently? C.A.R.E. has just the opportunity for you! Take a dog, cat, or a litter home with you to give them a vacation from the shelter. C.A.R.E. supplies everything you need (toys, bowls, food, etc.), you just supply the love.

TRANSPORT:
Colorado Animal Rescue is always in need of volunteers to help transport animals from partner shelters as part of our shelter transfer program, pick up donations, and more! Depending on the nature of the transport, you can use one of our shelter vans, or your own vehicle (if you use your own vehicle we can reimburse you for gas).
When: Transport is needed intermittently. If you choose to sign up for transport opportunities, our Programs Director will contact you as the need arises.
DONATION PICK-UP
Do you want to help C.A.R.E. receive donations from locations around our area? TNR TRANSPORT:
Are you interested in helping with our TNR program? We are looking for assistance getting cats and kittens transported to us for Spay and Neuter services, and possibly back to the location they were found/ picked up from.
