Colorado Animal Rescue strives to find loving and permanent homes for all animals in our care. Should you need to surrender an animal to our shelter, please consider the following alternatives prior to surrendering.
We ask that you please call us and discuss your options before surrendering your pet to the shelter.
We understand that unavoidable situations arise and that keeping your pet might not be an option for you. Before you relinquish your pet, however, please review the resources below. While we are dedicated to providing care to surrendered animals we ask that you make an effort to rehome your animal before calling us. Our facility has limited space, please know that we may ask you to keep your pet until space becomes available. We request a surrender fee of $75 to help cover the expenses of food and medical care for surrendered pets.
Below are examples of the most common reasons for pet relinquishment. We offer services to mitigate these situations. Please call us to discuss your options.

Food/Pet Supply Cost
If you are in need of basic supplies, such as bedding, toys, or litter boxes, we may be able to help (availability permitting). If you are in need of pet food, please visit our Pet Food Bank page for more information.
Too Many Pets/Unexpected Litter
If you have an unexpected litter, please contact us. All litters in our care will receive full veterinary assistance and care from our staff. We ask that you please surrender all animals from an unexpected litter to the shelter instead of attempting to rehome them yourself. This way, we ensure each animal is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and healthy prior to being adopted.
Domestic-Violence Issues/Mental Health
Colorado Animal Rescue works with local agencies to provide safe keeping for animals during a time of need. If you need to find temporary housing for your pet, please have the resource center you are working with call us to discuss options and availability.
